Then there was the piercing of His hands and of His feet. (Psa. 22:16) There was also the crown of thorns pressed upon His brow, and the spear thrust into His side. All this and much more entered into Peter’s telling phrase, “He … by wicked hands … was crucified and slain.” (Acts 2:23) The death of Christ would also be a humiliating death. The priest would take the bird of the burnt offering and “pluck away its crop with its feathers, and cast it … by the place of the ashes” (v. 16).
